MIOX Corporation of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Simply Water, LLC have
entered an agreement for product development, sales and support for on-site
mixed oxidant generation systems for the Swimming Pool and Spa industry
in the United States. Simply Water, LLC specializes in chemical automation
systems and water chemistry consulting. The Houston, Texas based company
provides the MIOX Corporation a professional extension of its product
for recreational water with sound technical and product experience and
unparalleled support.

The MIOX system produces
both free available chlorine (FAC) and mixed oxidants. Mixed oxidants
are more powerful than chlorine compounds. The system was originally
designed in 1982 for disinfecting drinking water in the field for
the U.S. Army. The process requires only salt, water, and power to
operate. Salt is stored in a brine tank and brine is pumped into an
off-line cabinet where the cell is located. The oxidants are then
generated and stored in an oxidant tank where they remain until treatment
of water is needed upon swimmer load utilizing ORP and/or ppm automated
controls. As the oxidant tank level is decreased, the system activates
and begins to produce oxidants refilling the tank, always assuring
enough chemical storage for peak demand periods. Capacities range
from 2.5 pounds per day up to 1,000 pounds per day of free available
chlorine (FAC), eliminating the storage of dangerous chemicals such
as bulk sodium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite tablets at pool
facilities. |
Simply Water, LLC has installed the mixed-oxidant systems
at indoor and outdoor pools, spas, and water parks in a wide array of
facilities, ranging from municipal settings to private schools and YMCAs.
Rick Dempsey, CEO of Simply Water, reports the success of many industry
innovative characteristics within the water quality and safety at those
locations. The mixed-oxidant system provides the industry with the most
advanced technology for treating pool and spa water in the world. Industry
sensitive problems such as superchlorination for combined chlorine, can
now be eliminated or accomplished without using large volumes of chlorine
and spending tremendous staff time or downtime. The mixed-oxidant system
provides safety to staff and swimmers while eliminating chlorinous odors,
in addition to eye and skin irritants, due to the elimination or reduction
of dichloramine and trichloramine formations (swimmer waste mixed with
chlorine). This also provides an immense benefit in improving air quality
issues which are a constant problem affecting members, staff, and building
equipment including air handling systems and metals. Swimmers also enjoy
a more refreshing feel to the water and fatigue reduction often associated
with competitive swimmers. The removal of biofilm is another significant
industry hazard that can be eliminated.
The MIOX
Corporation and Simply Water, LLC partnership will prove invaluable to
the Swimming Pool and Spa industry in the United States. MIOX mixed-oxidant
systems have been used successfully for 10 years in pools and spas with
only limited exposure in the United States. The longevity and the effectiveness
of the equipment has been proven at all sites including those in Japan
and Asia. Recreational water facilities in the United States can now provide
a safe and effective solution for their operations using this remarkable
technology.
